The Edo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Eugenia Abdallah, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to advancing the welfare and empowerment of young women, following a courtesy visit by the National Female Students Association of Nigeria (NFSAN), University of Benin chapter.

The delegation, led by the Director of Welfare/Social, Johnson Esther Oyimeh, alongside other executive members, engaged the Commissioner to seek strategic partnership and institutional support for their forthcoming programme, the Edo State Menstrual Health and Empowerment Initiative, scheduled for June 4.
Speaking during the visit, Comrade Oyimeh explained that the initiative aims to promote menstrual hygiene awareness, break long standing stigmas surrounding menstruation, and equip female students with the knowledge and resources needed to manage their health with confidence and dignity. She stressed that collaboration with the Ministry would be instrumental in expanding the programme’s reach and impact across the state.
Responding, Mrs Abdallah commended the association for championing a cause that directly impacts the well-being, education, and self-esteem of young girls. She noted that menstrual health is a critical component of gender equity and social inclusion, adding that the Ministry remains open to partnerships that deliver sustainable outcomes for women and girls.
The Commissioner also expressed appreciation for her invitation as a speaker at the event, assuring the delegation of her full support and readiness to contribute meaningfully to the success of the initiative.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to collaborate on programmes that promote the rights, health, and empowerment of female students across Edo State.
