The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. (Mrs.) Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the Palace of the Iyase of Udo Dukedom to discuss the forthcoming three-day free medical outreach scheduled to hold from Tuesday, August 11 to Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the Comprehensive Health Centre (CHC), Udo.

Speaking during the visit, the CMD, who was represented by Dr. Philip Osho, Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (Clinicals), expressed appreciation to the traditional ruler for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the delegation.
Prof. Ize-Iyamu explained that the visit was to seek the blessings, support and partnership of the traditional institution as UBTH prepares to deliver essential healthcare services to residents of Udo and neighbouring communities.

“We are deeply honoured to be received in your palace today. This visit reflects the high regard UBTH has for our revered traditional institutions.
“This outreach is part of UBTH’s unwavering commitment to taking quality healthcare beyond the walls of the hospital and bringing essential medical services closer to the people. It aligns with our vision of ensuring equitable access to healthcare through community engagement, preventive medicine, early diagnosis, treatment and health promotion.

“During the three-day outreach, our multidisciplinary team of highly skilled healthcare professionals will provide free medical consultations, screening for hypertension, diabetes, eye diseases and other common health conditions, as well as dental care. The outreach will also include health education, counselling, the provision of essential medications where necessary, and referrals for patients requiring specialist care at UBTH.”

The CMD noted that the initiative is aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of the people of Udo and surrounding communities by providing quality, compassionate and accessible healthcare services.
She also appealed to the Iyase to support the programme by mobilising community leaders, youth organisations, women’s groups, religious leaders and other stakeholders to ensure maximum participation.

Responding, the Iyase of Udo Dukedom, His Highness Chief Patrick Igbinidu, commended the UBTH management for the initiative, describing it as a significant milestone in the development of the community.

He said the intervention at the Comprehensive Health Centre marks the beginning of a new chapter for Udo Dukedom.
“It is a new dawn for the Udo community. I am delighted to witness development coming to Udo. I can see hope shining upon Udo Dukedom, and I am especially excited about the forthcoming three-day free medical outreach,” he said.
