UBTH CMD Receives International Medical Delegation for NIDCOM Initiative

Medical experts from across the world have arrived in Benin City for the NIDCOM Diaspora Medical Health Impact Initiative, which features the Endometriosis Ultrasound National Capacity Building Programme for gynecologists, radiologists, sonographers, and reproductive health practitioners.

The Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, on Sunday, July 19, 2026, hosted the visiting medical professionals at a reception in Benin City ahead of the commencement of the programme.

Among the distinguished guests were Dr. Uche Menakaya, a gynecologist and endoscopic surgeon from Australia, Prof. Francesco Cende of the University of Milan, Italy; Prof. Ligita Jokubkiene of Lund University, Sweden; and Mrs. Juliet Menakaya from Australia.
Also in attendance were Dr. Loretta Oduware Ogboro-Okor, Director-General of the Edo State Diaspora Agency, Dr. Emmanuel Osaigbovo, Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), UBTH, Dr. Philip Osho, Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (Clinical Services), Prof. Anthony Atimati, Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (Training and Monitoring), Prof. Adebola Ehizele, Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (Research and Ethics), Prof. Festus Ehigiamusoe, Head of the Department of Radiology, UBTH; and Mr. Esan James, Head of Finance and Accounts, UBTH.

The event underscores a renewed commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system through international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and capacity building in the diagnosis and management of endometriosis.

The initiative is supported by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMoH), the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), and the Nigerian Association of Medical Doctors in the Americas (NAMDA).
