Edo Wins Award of Excellence as Best Performing State in SGBV Prevention, Protection

Edo State has been honoured with the Award of Excellence as the Best Performing State in Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Prevention and Protection at the 26th National Council on Women Affairs, Child Advancement and Social Development held in Jalingo, Taraba State.

The prestigious award, presented by the National Council, recognises Edo State’s sustained efforts in preventing and responding to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, protecting women and girls, and strengthening systems that promote their rights, safety, and well-being.

Reacting to the recognition, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Eugenia Abdallah, described the award as a significant milestone for Edo State and a strong validation of the administration of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, in its commitment to building a safer, more inclusive, and equitable society for women, girls, and other vulnerable persons.

Abdallah noted that while the award is a source of pride, it also serves as a call to action for the Ministry and its partners to intensify efforts toward preventing SGBV and ensuring that survivors receive the protection, support, care, and justice they deserve.

She commended the Permanent Secretary, directors, and staff of the Ministry, as well as development partners, security agencies, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders, for their dedication and contributions to the State’s achievements in SGBV prevention and protection.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening advocacy and prevention programmes, expanding survivor centred support services, and deepening inter-agency collaboration toward eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls in Edo State.

She dedicated the award to all stakeholders working tirelessly to protect the rights, dignity, and safety of women and girls across the State, stressing that the recognition would further motivate the Ministry to raise the standard of service delivery.

“This award belongs to Edo State and to every stakeholder who has contributed to our collective efforts to prevent Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and protect survivors. We are encouraged by this recognition, but we also recognise that there is still much work to be done. We will continue to strengthen our systems, deepen collaboration, and ensure that every woman and girl in Edo State can live free from violence and fear,” Abdallah said.
