The Edo State Government has dissociated itself from reports suggesting that popular Nigerian musician, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been banned from entering the state.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, MNIPR, the government described the purported ban as the handiwork of an impostor and fraud, stressing that Edo remains home to all Nigerians regardless of their political, religious or social affiliations.

The government said Davido, whose mother hails from Edo State, remains one of Nigeria’s global ambassadors and would be warmly welcomed should he choose to visit or perform in the state.

It added that the disagreements surrounding Davido and political developments in Osun State were purely political and should not be misconstrued as personal.

According to the statement, the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration appreciates Davido’s contributions to the Nigerian music industry and his role in promoting Nigeria globally, expressing hope that the singer would soon receive a Grammy award.
