Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured contractors handling road projects across the state of sustained funding and government support to ensure significant progress before Christmas.

Okpebholo gave the assurance on Monday while inspecting ongoing work on the Arue-Uromi-Agbor road projects in Esan North East Local Government Area, noting that construction was progressing despite challenges posed by the rainy season.

The Governor said drainage works were currently receiving priority, as heavy rains had limited other construction activities, adding that the government would continue to release funds to contractors as resources became available.

“Our aim is to make sure that we do our best to fund them. As the money comes to us, we also use the money to fund them. So, we will continue to strive to ensure that progress is made on these roads,” he said.

He expressed optimism that the projects would improve road infrastructure, ease movement and provide greater convenience for residents and motorists, particularly during the Christmas period.

The Area Manager of Setraco Nigeria Limited, Mr. Michel Aoy, said the Irrua-Uromi bypass road would have a nine-metre carriageway on each side, a concrete median barrier and street lighting.

Aoy noted that securing the right of way for the 18.6-metre road, alongside an approximately 20-metre drainage corridor, had been a major challenge, but expressed satisfaction that the drainage works, described as the most difficult phase, were now progressing.
