The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of vulnerable persons with the empowerment of a vulnerable mother, Mrs. Joy Williams, with a grinding machine to support her livelihood.

The empowerment item was presented to Joy by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Eugenia Abdallah, on behalf of the state government led by Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Joy had earlier approached the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, seeking assistance to acquire a grinding machine that would provide her with a sustainable source of income and enable her to cater for her baby, whose father had allegedly rejected the child.

Her plight was further compounded by financial hardship, which reportedly resulted in her eviction from her apartment after she was unable to meet her rent obligations, leaving her and her child in a difficult situation.

Moved by her circumstances, Hon. Abdallah took up her case and facilitated the provision of the grinding machine as a practical intervention to help her rebuild her livelihood, attain financial independence and provide a more secure future for her child.

While presenting the item, the Commissioner commended Governor Okpebholo for his commitment to the welfare of Edo people, particularly vulnerable women, children and families, through the people-oriented policies of his administration under the SHINE Agenda. She noted that the intervention demonstrated the government’s determination to give vulnerable citizens opportunities to overcome hardship and become economically independent.

Hon. Abdallah reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to protecting the rights and interests of women, children and other vulnerable groups, assuring that genuine cases of hardship would continue to receive attention through appropriate welfare and empowerment interventions.

An elated Joy Williams expressed profound gratitude to Governor Okpebholo and the Commissioner for coming to her assistance at a critical moment in her life. She particularly appreciated Hon. Abdallah for listening to her appeal and ensuring that her request received the necessary attention, describing the gesture as a major turning point for her and her child.

Joy pledged to make effective use of the grinding machine to establish and sustain her business, generate income and provide for her family’s needs. The intervention underscores the importance of compassionate leadership and targeted empowerment programmes in restoring hope, promoting self-reliance and improving the living conditions of vulnerable women and children across Edo State.
