Plot By Top State Gov’t Functionaries To Destabilize Edo NULGE Uncovered

The leadership of the National Union of Local Government Employees(NULGE) in Edo State has said it has uncovered the plot by some top government functionaries in Edo State, in connivance with some Union members who lost out in the just concluded State Officers election held on August 6 at Sabongida-Ora to mobilize hoodlums to attack the Secretariat of the Union in Benin.
The alleged plan, which is proposed to be effected on Monday, August 12, 2024, is aimed at carting away sensitive and non-sensitive materials used for the election and also sealing up the secretariat.
According to information emanating from the Edo NULGE secretariat, purportedly signed by the Union’s General Secretary, Bar. Olumuyiwa Cole, “The Union is said to have provoked these government officials by refusing to accept their calls for the suspension of the State Officers’ elections through several correspondence and circulars to that effect.
“They felt that their ego had been bruised, hence their plot to destabilize the Union by attacking and sealing up the secretariat, intimidating the Officers, and sending panic and apprehension among members and Union staff.
“The Union wishes to inform members of the public that it has tolerated and endured every provocative action and meddlesomeness of these government officials in the Union’s affairs since the date of our State Officers election was announced and wishes to state that the elasticity of our patience has gotten to its limit.
“The Union wishes to call on Edo State Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, all security agencies and people of good conscience in Edo State to prevail on these agents and provocateurs within government and their tools within the Union to desist from this condemnable and cowardly plot which will not only backfire but set the State on industrial and civil unrest.
“The Union is not unaware of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the State and has been conducting its affairs quietly and peacefully. We shall however not be blackmailed into silence and submission upon a brazen violation of our rights as citizens and the continuous assault on our Union by people whose agenda is to impose their cronies on the Union as leaders through unconstitutional means.
“The Union calls on any member who is dissatisfied with the process of electing State Officers to explore windows made available by the Union Constitution to ventilate their grievances instead of behaving like a proverbial sword that want to destroy its shield. The Union will invoke maximum saction on any member whose conduct is inimical to the stability of the Union.
Members are enjoined to go about their lawful activities and report any act of provocation that is capable of causing crisis within the Union or disrupting public peace to law enforcement agencies and the Union Secretariat, NULGE Said.
