The Vice Chairman, Ovia North East LGA Council of Edo State, Hon. Efosa Uyigue joins women across the globe to mark the international women’s day.
In her message to mark the Int’l Women’s Day, she emphasised the need for a more robust stakeholders engagement in addressing the economic hardship in the state and nation at large. Expressing the need to implement policies that can favorably address this issue for a lasting solution to food scarcity.
This year’s Int’l Women’s Day, according to United Nations and other global organisations, is themed “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”
The International Women’s Day is observed globally on the 8th of March every year. It is a day to raise awareness of women’s rights, gender equality, the right to education, and many more. The best way to address critical issues is when women are given equal opportunities in making and implementing policies for the growth and development of the nation.
Hon. Uyigue emphasized the need for women to embrace Education as it is the key in breaking down barriers and empowering women in pursuing their dreams and gaining more grounds in securing opportunities in the administrative departments of governance where policies are made and implemented.
She admonished women in the civil service most particularly in her immediate constituency, to put in more hard work, commitments and delivering credible assignments that will aide in the growth and development of Ovia North East LGA of Edo State.
She congratulated Angel Oseriemen’s Guinness World Records challenge in embarking on a reading marathon of more than 200 hours in Edo State. commends her inspiration, zeal in achieving the feat and beating past records in the world.
She hail Women football champions like Oshoala, one of the most celebrated African female footballer who won the African female footballer of the year award six (6) times in the CAF Awards, Nigerian female goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie who also won female goalkeeper of the year in the CAF Awards. As she celebrates these accomplishment of Nigerian female footballers, she emphasised the need to support women in sports and commending their sterling performances. And appreciating them for putting in their best in the game and winning trophies.
She thanked the incredible women teachers, who dedicated their time in education, playing pivotal role in shaping the minds of future generations. According to her, “Teaching is not just a profession but also a calling, a passion to inspire and guide young minds towards knowledge and growth.”
Hon. Uyigue also hails female legends in the entertainment industries whose talents and roles have given more stakes to women in career building and investments. She celebrates Arya Starr, Mercy Johnson Yvonne Jegede, Mercy Aigbe, Etinosa Idemudia, Linda Osifo and a host of many others who are making the Nation proud in their various ventures.
Concluding, she said , women should take this opportunity in reflecting on the progress made but also recognise the challenges that lie ahead in achieving true gender parity. Women must stand in solidarity in amplifying their voices, supporting their aspirations, and creating a world where every woman and girl child can thrive without barriers or limitations.
