Edo PDP’s Cocktail of Desperation, Projection, and Reckless Hypocrisy

By Editor

It is very funny that the dying Edo PDP’s, acting publicity secretary, Chris Osa Nehikhare, is once again going what he knows how to do best, standing truth on its head with a watery press release which turns out to be nothing short of a cocktail of desperation, projection, and reckless hypocrisy. It is actually an ill-fated attempt at distorting the Edo public’s perception of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s firm and principled approach to governance.

It is an advice that if the PDP is alarmed by Governor Okpebholo’s courage to clean up the Augean stables left behind by eight years of reckless impunity under the PDP’s disastrous watch, then they should brace up for more. The Governor’s resolve to enforce discipline, accountability, and service delivery is unshakeable.

Unlike the PDP, which institutionalized impunity and made Edo State a cesspool of cronyism, Governor Okpebholo believes that public office is a sacred trust—not a license for looting. When credible allegations arise, this administration acts swiftly to safeguard public trust. Suspension pending investigation is not a witch-hunt; it is a hallmark of transparent and responsible leadership.

Rather than applaud this paradigm shift, the PDP finds it more comfortable with the rot it left behind: missing public funds, abandoned projects, ghost institutions, and a culture of silence in the face of glaring misconduct. Their idea of leadership is to sweep allegations under the carpet while shielding cronies, no matter the weight of their infractions.

The PDP dares to ask whether Governor Okpebholo knowingly assembled a “team of questionable characters.” That’s rich, coming from a party that foisted on Edo State the likes of consultants who doubled as commissioners, advisers who ran parallel governments, and a governor who ruled with press statements and a web of fictitious development plans.

Let it be known that the APC government in Edo under Senator Okpebholo is not afraid to do the hard work of reform. The people demanded change and accountability—and that is precisely what they are getting. These suspensions are neither theatrical nor aimless. They are strategic moves in a sincere process of purging the system of those who feel entitled to public resources.

The PDP is uncomfortable because, for the first time in nearly a decade, Edo State is witnessing the return of governance guided by conscience, not contracts; by merit, not media manipulation.

If Nehikhare wants to script a soap opera, let him start with the scandalous sale of public assets under Obaseki’s watch, or the infamous 30-year development plan released in his eighth year as a parting insult to Edo people. That is the true theatre of the absurd.

The Edo APC urges the public to ignore the PDP’s crocodile tears. Governor Okpebholo is not at war with his tools—he is at war with corruption, ineptitude, and the culture of impunity institutionalized by the PDP. And he is winning.

Barr. Peter Uwadiae Igbinigie
State Publicity Secretary
All Progressives Congress (APC), Edo State
