The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has responded to criticism from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the suspension of some officials in the state government.
The PDP’s acting publicity secretary, Chris Osa Nehikhare, had issued a statement questioning the suspension of the officials, alleging that it was a witch-hunt. However, the APC dismissed the PDP’s claims as desperate and hypocritical.
The APC’s state publicity secretary, Barr. Peter Uwadiae Igbinigie, said the suspensions were part of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s efforts to enforce discipline and accountability in government. He added that the PDP’s reaction was expected, given their history of institutionalizing impunity and corruption in the state.
Igbinigie noted that the Okpebholo-led administration is committed to transparency and responsible leadership, unlike the PDP, which he claimed shielded cronies and swept allegations under the carpet. He emphasized that the suspensions were strategic moves to purge the system of those who feel entitled to public resources.
The APC urged the public to ignore the PDP’s criticism, saying that Governor Okpebholo is committed to fighting corruption and ineptitude. Igbinigie also reminded the PDP of their own record of corruption and mismanagement during their time in power.
The APC’s response highlights the growing tension between the two parties in Edo State, with the APC confident that its governance approach will prevail. The party’s commitment to transparency and accountability is set to continue, with the suspensions being a key part of this effort.
