The Edo State Government has announced the arrival of new 50 of 52 seater CNG-powered buses, popularly known as “Akpako Buses,” as part of efforts to improve transportation and ease the burden of movement for residents across the state.
The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Benin City, where he said the buses would soon commence operations under the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
According to Afegbua, the buses will be distributed across the three senatorial districts to ensure residents enjoy more affordable, accessible and efficient transportation services.
He explained that the introduction of the CNG buses forms part of the government’s broader commitment to infrastructural development, economic growth and improved welfare for Edo people.
The Commissioner noted that despite criticisms from opposition quarters, Governor Okpebholo remains focused on delivering practical governance and people-oriented projects capable of transforming the state.
Afegbua also stressed the need for a stable and secure environment to attract investors, highlighting Edo State’s rich deposits of limestone, gold, coal and vast agricultural potential.
He further reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance stance against cultism, internet fraud and other criminal activities, warning that such vices threaten the future of Edo youths and the peace of the state.
The Commissioner urged residents to support government efforts by embracing lawful means of livelihood, maintaining environmental cleanliness and cooperating with security agencies to build a safer and more prosperous Edo State.
