Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, Senator Joseph Ikpea, has praised Governor Monday Okpebholo for taking decisive action to safeguard students following a security alert by the Department of State Services (DSS) on a planned attack on schools in Edo North.

The senator described the Governor’s decision to temporarily close affected schools as a proactive and responsible measure that placed the safety of children above all other considerations.
In a statement made available to journalists in Benin City, Senator Ikpea said Governor Okpebholo demonstrated leadership and a strong commitment to protecting lives by acting promptly on intelligence provided by security agencies.

According to him, while the closure may have caused temporary disruptions to academic activities, especially at a period when students are sitting for important examinations, it was a necessary sacrifice to prevent potential tragedy.

He stressed that security must remain a collective responsibility, urging residents across Edo State, particularly those in Edo Central Senatorial District, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.

Senator Ikpea noted that criminal elements do not respect geographical boundaries and warned against the assumption that threats confined to one part of the state cannot spread to others.
He further commended the DSS and other security agencies for their collaboration with the Edo State Government in maintaining peace and security, assuring that he would continue to support initiatives aimed at keeping Edo State safe from criminal activities.

The commendation follows intelligence reports indicating a plot by suspected kidnappers to target schools in Edo North, prompting heightened security measures and the temporary closure of some schools as a precautionary step.
