The Edo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Eugenia Abdallah, has congratulated Nigerians and residents of Edo State on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, describing the event as a testament to the nation’s democratic resilience and commitment to good governance.
In a statement issued to mark the occasion, Hon. Abdallah praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his efforts in strengthening democratic institutions, fostering national unity, and implementing policies aimed at advancing Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
She also commended the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for what she described as his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the welfare and development of the people of the state. According to her, the governor’s people-centred programmes and developmental initiatives continue to inspire confidence and hope for a brighter future for Edo citizens.
The Commissioner noted that Democracy Day provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifices made by the nation’s democratic heroes and to recommit themselves to the ideals of freedom, justice, equity, accountability, and peaceful coexistence.
“Democracy remains the foundation for sustainable development and national progress. It thrives when citizens actively participate in governance, respect the rule of law, promote peace, and embrace unity despite their differences,” she said.
Hon. Abdallah reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to promoting the welfare and inclusion of women, children, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and other vulnerable groups across Edo State.
She stressed that meaningful and sustainable development can only be achieved through inclusive governance that guarantees equal opportunities and empowers all segments of society to contribute to nation-building.
The Commissioner urged Edo residents to continue supporting government efforts at all levels, uphold democratic values, and work collectively towards building a peaceful, united, and prosperous society.
She wished Nigerians a peaceful and memorable Democracy Day celebration and prayed for continued peace, progress, and prosperity in Edo State and the country at large.
