Governor Monday Okpebholo has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance with the nomination of Mr. Martin Anayochukwu Oli, an indigene of Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, as a Commissioner-Designate in Edo State.

The nomination, announced by the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., represents another significant step in the governor’s efforts to ensure that all communities resident in Edo State are represented in government, irrespective of ethnic background.

Mr. Oli’s nomination is the second major appointment involving a non-Edo indigene since Governor Okpebholo assumed office. In November 2024, the governor appointed Hon. Abdulkarim Kadiri, a prominent leader of the Hausa-Fulani community in Edo State, as Special Adviser on Community Matters.

The latest nomination underscores Governor Okpebholo’s vision of building a government that reflects the state’s diversity while recognising the contributions of residents from different ethnic backgrounds to Edo’s development.

Through the nomination, the administration reiterated its belief that inclusive governance goes beyond political rhetoric, stressing that effective leadership requires giving all stakeholders a voice in decision making and opportunities to contribute to governance.

Edo State is home to several ethnic communities, including the Igbo, Hausa-Fulani, Yoruba and others, whose economic, social and cultural contributions have played a vital role in the state’s growth over the years.

Mr. Oli, an accomplished businessman with extensive private sector experience, is also widely recognised as a community leader within Edo’s Igbo community. He has been actively involved in grassroots development initiatives and programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities.

His nomination, according to the government, reflects the administration’s commitment to rewarding competence, community service and dedication to the development of Edo State.

If confirmed by the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Oli will join Governor Okpebholo’s cabinet as part of the administration’s broader agenda of promoting unity, inclusiveness and participatory governance across the state.

The nomination has been forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation in accordance with constitutional provisions.
