The Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Senator Saliu Mustapha, has formally joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after resigning his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mustapha has also secured the PDP’s senatorial nomination form for Kwara Central ahead of the 2027 general elections, signalling his readiness to contest the seat under his new political platform.

The nomination form was formally presented to the senator by the Kwara State PDP Chairman following his decision to move to the opposition party.

Mustapha had earlier announced his resignation from the APC, citing recent developments and internal challenges within the party in Kwara State as major factors behind his decision.

According to the senator, his decision followed weeks of consultations and engagements with stakeholders, supporters, constituents and other well meaning people across the state.

He stressed that leaving the APC was not a decision he took lightly, but one reached after carefully examining developments within the party and their implications for his political future.

He noted that political platforms must remain aligned with the aspirations and expectations of the people they represent, adding that when a platform no longer sufficiently reflects those convictions, it becomes necessary to chart a new course.

The senator described his resignation from the APC as the outcome of deep reflection and consultation, expressing confidence that his decision to join the PDP would enable him to continue pursuing the interests and aspirations of his constituents.

His defection adds a fresh dimension to the political calculations ahead of the 2027 general elections in Kwara State, particularly in the Kwara Central Senatorial District.
