The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) on Friday, August 28, 2026, received Hon. Billy Osawaru, the lawmaker representing the Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, on a familiarisation visit to the institution.
The Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof. Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, alongside the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Emmanuel Osaigbovo, and members of the hospital’s management team, received the federal lawmaker during the visit.
As part of the engagement, Hon. Osawaru toured key facilities across the institution, gaining firsthand insight into the hospital’s operations, infrastructure, specialist services and ongoing development projects.
The hospital management also briefed the lawmaker on UBTH’s transformation agenda, recent institutional achievements and strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery, improving patient care, and advancing medical education and professional development.
Management further highlighted critical areas requiring legislative intervention and support, particularly the provision and upgrading of medical infrastructure, equipment and other resources needed to enhance the hospital’s operational capacity.
The interactive session provided a strategic platform for the hospital leadership and the federal lawmaker to explore opportunities for collaboration and legislative support that could further advance UBTH’s development and improve services for patients, staff and students.
The visit, which was marked by a warm reception, underscored the importance of sustained engagement between healthcare institutions and lawmakers in promoting quality healthcare delivery, strengthening medical infrastructure and supporting the continued transformation of UBTH.
