The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has taken delivery of a newly donated ambulance from the Federal Government to strengthen emergency medical response and enhance healthcare delivery at the tertiary healthcare institution.

The ambulance was formally presented to the hospital on Monday, August 31, 2026, by the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, who facilitated the donation during his tenure as a member of the House of Representatives.

Speaking at the presentation, the Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the donation, describing it as a significant boost to the hospital’s emergency medical services and patient care.

Prof. Ize-Iyamu stated that the ambulance would enhance the hospital’s capacity to respond promptly to emergencies and provide quality healthcare to patients. She assured the gathering that the vehicle would be deployed judiciously in furtherance of the hospital’s mandate.

“We thank the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda, for this invaluable support to UBTH. This donation will strengthen our emergency medical services and enhance our capacity to deliver quality healthcare,” she said.

Presenting the ambulance on behalf of the Federal Government, Deputy Governor Idahosa commended the management of UBTH, led by Prof. Ize-Iyamu, for its commitment to excellence and the significant progress being recorded in healthcare delivery at the institution.

Idahosa, who recalled his efforts to facilitate the donation while serving in the House of Representatives, expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Health and the Federal Ministry of Health for their support to the hospital. He, however, called for additional Federal Government projects and modern medical equipment for UBTH, emphasising its strategic importance to healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

“I have been involved in the process of securing this donation since my time as a member of the House of Representatives. I appreciate the President, the Minister and the Federal Ministry of Health for their support. However, I wish to appeal to the President for additional projects at UBTH, given its strategic location and importance to healthcare delivery in Nigeria. The better equipped the hospital is with modern medical equipment, the greater the access to essential healthcare services for our people,” Idahosa said.

The Deputy Governor also reaffirmed the Edo State Government’s commitment to supporting sustainable healthcare services across the state. He expressed appreciation to the management and medical personnel of UBTH for the care provided to his late mother, Madam Esther Imaguomwanruo Idahosa, during her admission at the hospital before her passing.
