Edo State has joined the global community in commemorating World Tourism Day 2026, with the Edo State Tourism Agency (EDSTA) spotlighting Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital innovation and the creative economy as key drivers for transforming the state’s tourism sector and expanding its global appeal.
The celebration, themed “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” commenced with a road walk from the MOWAA Gate and continued with a symposium at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA), Benin City.

The event was hosted by the Director-General of the Edo State Tourism Agency, Lady Vivian Elabor, with the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, as Chief Host.
Hon. Dennis Idahosa and Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani attended as Special Guests of Honour.
The celebration provided an opportunity for stakeholders to examine how emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence and digital innovation, can transform the tourism sector and position Edo State more prominently on the global tourism map.
Discussions also focused on leveraging technology to promote Edo’s rich cultural heritage, historical landmarks and tourism destinations to wider audiences locally and internationally.
The event highlighted the growing connection between tourism, technology and the creative economy, with stakeholders exploring ways digital tools can create new opportunities for young people, creatives, entrepreneurs and businesses within the sector.
As Edo joined the world in marking World Tourism Day, the celebration underscored the need for the state to embrace innovation while preserving and promoting its unique cultural identity and heritage.
