The Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City has dissolved the marriage between Mr. Michael Okechukwu Mbiere and Mrs. Best Mbiere over what the court described as an irretrievable breakdown of the union caused by prolonged marital disputes and loss of trust.

Delivering judgment on Monday, May 11, 2026, Honourable Justice Daniel Iyobosa Okungbowa granted the petition filed by Mrs. Mbiere on grounds including adultery, neglect, emotional abuse, and allegations of bigamy. The court awarded custody of the couple’s three children to the petitioner and directed the respondent to cater for their welfare, including upkeep, medical care, and education.

The court also ordered Mr. Mbiere to refund ₦21.5 million allegedly paid by Mrs. Mbiere to InterContinental Distillery Company on his behalf over liabilities linked to an alleged ₦44 million fraud case.

Reacting to the judgment, former Mrs. Best Mbiere, now Best Oretor, described the ruling as emotional but liberating, saying it marked a new chapter in her life after years of emotional distress and public embarrassment. She expressed gratitude to the court for granting her custody of the children, describing them as her greatest joy.
