The Edo State Government has reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights, welfare and future of every child, with a renewed focus on inclusion, equal opportunities and social protection across the State.
This assurance was given by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Eugenia Abdallah, in a statement personally signed to mark the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
Hon. Abdallah described children as the pride of the nation and the foundation upon which a better and more prosperous society is built, stressing that every child deserves love, care, quality education and the freedom to dream without limitations.
Speaking on this year’s Children’s Day theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” the Commissioner said the celebration serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility of government, parents and society to ensure that no child is left behind, irrespective of gender, background, disability or social status.
According to her, building an inclusive society remains essential to raising confident, protected and empowered children who can contribute meaningfully to national development.
“Every child deserves love, quality education, healthcare, protection and the opportunity to dream without limitations. We must continue to create an environment where no child is left behind and where the voices, rights and wellbeing of children remain a priority,” she stated.
The Commissioner commended the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his people-oriented policies and programmes aimed at improving child welfare, youth empowerment and inclusive development in the State.
She noted that the Governor’s commitment to good governance continues to positively impact children and vulnerable groups through investments in education, healthcare, social protection and overall wellbeing.
Hon. Abdallah also called on parents, teachers, religious leaders, caregivers and other stakeholders to play active roles in nurturing children with the right moral values, guidance and support needed to become responsible citizens and future leaders.
She encouraged children across Edo State to remain focused, hopeful and determined, assuring them that the State Government remains committed to creating opportunities that will enable them thrive and excel in all areas of life.
The Commissioner further urged society to continue protecting children from abuse, exploitation, discrimination and all forms of violence, while promoting peace, tolerance and inclusion at every level.
She wished children across Edo State a joyful, memorable and fulfilling 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
