The Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, has commended Roche Products Ltd. for its unwavering commitment to improving cancer care through collaboration, innovation and capacity building.

Prof. Ize-Iyamu gave the commendation on Monday during the launch of the Patient Navigation Programme at the UBTH Cancer Centre, an initiative supported by Roche as part of its broader commitment to advancing cancer care across Africa.

She expressed appreciation to Roche for partnering with UBTH to strengthen cancer services, reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

According to the Chief Medical Director, the Patient Navigation Programme will further enhance UBTH’s comprehensive cancer services by ensuring that patients receive the guidance, counselling and coordinated support they need throughout their treatment journey, from diagnosis to recovery.

Speaking at the event, the Oncology Ecosystem Enabler at Roche Products Ltd., Pharm. Funsho David, explained that the programme is designed to provide holistic support for cancer patients by helping them navigate every stage of care, including diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, thereby improving treatment outcomes and patients’ overall experience.

He noted that the initiative aligns with Roche’s commitment to supporting Africa’s vision for improved breast cancer care through the Africa Breast Cancer Ambition (ABCA), which seeks to strengthen collaboration with governments and healthcare institutions to expand access to quality cancer services across the continent.

Pharm. David further disclosed that the initiative also seeks to improve access to cancer treatment through the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), making quality cancer care more affordable and accessible to patients.

The launch of the Patient Navigation Programme underscores UBTH’s continued commitment to strengthening comprehensive cancer care through strategic partnerships that improve access to quality healthcare, enhance patient experience and ultimately deliver better treatment outcomes.
