The Director General of the Directorate of Education Quality and Accountability (DEQA), Edo State, Dr. Amen Ogbemudia, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence by the National Association of Educational Administration and Planning (NAEAP) in recognition of her outstanding contributions to educational leadership, quality assurance and school improvement in Nigeria.
The award was presented at the First NAEAP Rivers and Bayelsa Zonal Conference held on July 2, 2026, at the Federal College of Education, Omoku, Rivers State. The conference, themed “Emerging Innovative Educational Leadership and Management in a Digital and Changing Society,” attracted education administrators, policymakers, researchers and stakeholders from across the country.

Dr. Ogbemudia presented a paper titled “Quality Assurance and Accountability as Instruments for Enhancing Teachers’ Effectiveness and School Leadership Performance: The DEQA Experience in Edo State.” She highlighted how DEQA’s quality assurance framework, evidence-based supervision, continuous teacher development, accountability and data-driven decision-making have improved teaching standards, strengthened school leadership and enhanced learning outcomes across Edo State. She also called for innovative, technology-driven and accountable leadership, supported by strong collaboration among government, schools, parents and communities.
Her presentation was widely applauded for its practical relevance and innovative approach to improving educational quality in Nigeria.
Beyond receiving the award, Dr. Ogbemudia showcased Edo State’s rich cultural heritage by presenting beautifully crafted Edo artworks to the National President of NAEAP and three other distinguished dignitaries. The gesture earned admiration from participants, who described the gifts as enduring symbols of friendship and cultural pride.

The recognition further reflects the growing impact of the education reforms being championed by the administration of Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, whose commitment to strengthening quality education, accountability and institutional excellence continues to position Edo State as a reference point for educational development.

Dr. Ogbemudia was accompanied to the conference by members of the DEQA team, including the Head of ICT, Mr. Kelvin Omoragbon, the Chief Inspector of Education for Igueben Local Government Area, Mr. Kenneth Eguakun and the Head of Monitoring and Standards, Mrs. Omayuli Agbonmamwen.
