The Director-General of the Directorate of Education Quality and Accountability (DEQA), Edo State, Dr. Amen Ogbemudia, on Saturday embarked on a comprehensive monitoring exercise of the 2026 Middle Basic Assessment Examination across examination centres in the Edo Central Senatorial District, reaffirming the state’s commitment to maintaining quality, transparency and credibility in the basic education assessment process.

The monitoring exercise took the DEQA Director-General to three Local Government Areas in Edo Central, where she inspected the conduct of the examination, assessed compliance with examination guidelines and interacted with education officials overseeing the exercise.
At every Local Government Area visited, Dr. Ogbemudia was warmly received by the Chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs), who conducted her round the various examination centres.

In Esan Central Local Government Area, she was received by the Chief Inspector of Education, Mr. Aghomon Bernard. In Esan North East, she was welcomed by Mrs. Ozoya Gift Izoduwa, while Mrs. Omonigho Mabel received the delegation in Esan West Local Government Area.
Speaking during the monitoring visit to Eguare Primary School, Irrua, Dr. Ogbemudia expressed satisfaction with the orderly and peaceful conduct of the examination, describing the exercise as well coordinated and in line with the standards expected by the Directorate.
She commended the commitment of teachers, examination officials and school administrators for ensuring a smooth and hitch free exercise while encouraging candidates to remain focused and conduct themselves with integrity throughout the examination.

The DG applauded the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for placing education at the forefront of his SHINE Agenda. She noted that the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the education sector is evident in the improved learning environment, enhanced infrastructure and sustained investments aimed at providing quality education for every Edo child.
According to her, the administration has demonstrated that quality education remains a priority by matching its promises with concrete actions that promote effective teaching and learning across public schools in the state.
Dr. Ogbemudia stressed that regular monitoring of public examinations is essential to safeguarding the integrity of the education system, ensuring adherence to examination standards and reinforcing public confidence in the credibility of assessment processes.
Other schools visited during the monitoring exercise included Eguare Primary School in Esan West Local Government Area, Uromi Girls Primary School in Esan North East Local Government Area, among other examination centres across the district.
The DG was accompanied on the inspection tour by senior officials and staff of the Directorate of Education Quality and Accountability, who also monitored compliance with examination guidelines and evaluated the overall conduct of the exercise. The statewide monitoring exercise forms part of DEQA’s statutory responsibility to ensure that public examinations in Edo State are conducted in accordance with established standards, while promoting accountability, quality assurance and excellence in the state’s education system.
