The Edo State Government has commenced a Train-the-Trainer Programme aimed at equipping vocational and technical teachers with modern skills, digital technologies and innovative teaching methods to meet the evolving demands of education in the digital age.
The programme, organised by the Edo State Ministry of Education under the leadership of the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Washington Osifo, is designed to strengthen teachers’ professional capacity and enhance the quality of teaching and learning across the state.
Representing Governor Monday Okpebholo at the programme, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Musa Yakubu, emphasised the importance of continuous learning and professional development among teachers, noting that educators must continually update their knowledge and skills to remain relevant in a rapidly changing world.
The training focuses on industry relevant technical skills, digital technologies, competency based teaching methods and emerging innovations, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), with the goal of making teaching and learning more effective and responsive to the needs of 21st-century learners.
Participants are being introduced to digital tools and practical techniques that can make classroom instruction more engaging, interactive and effective, while also helping students acquire practical, digital and technical skills relevant to the modern economy.
The state government said the initiative reflects its commitment to strengthening the education sector through sustained investment in teachers’ knowledge and professional development, alongside improvements in school infrastructure.
It explained that vocational and technical teachers are being prioritised because of their critical role in equipping students with practical and technology-driven skills required to thrive in today’s competitive economy.
The government added that the programme forms part of the Okpebholo administration’s broader effort to build an innovative, technology-driven and skills focused education system capable of preparing Edo students for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century.
