Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has sworn in Dr. Washington Osifo as Commissioner for Education, charging him to prioritise the development of all levels of education across the state.
Osifo, a former Commissioner for Education, had earlier resigned from the cabinet to pursue political ambitions. He was recently renominated by the Governor and subsequently screened and confirmed by the Edo State House of Assembly. His return to the ministry follows the resignation of the former Commissioner, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, who stepped down to pursue his ambition to represent his constituency in the House of Representatives.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Okpebholo stated that Osifo’s reappointment was based on his credibility and proven capacity to deliver, noting that significant work still remains in the education sector.
The Governor tasked him with strengthening primary, secondary, and tertiary education, with a clear mandate to ensure measurable progress across all levels of the sector under his leadership.
Also sworn in was Mr. Aghedo Oscar Onaiwu as a member of the Edo State Local Government Service Commission.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, Osifo expressed appreciation to Governor Okpebholo for the confidence reposed in him and reaffirmed his loyalty to the Governor and the administration’s vision for Edo State.
He assured that he would discharge his duties diligently to advance the education sector and contribute meaningfully to the achievement of the administration’s objectives for the people of Edo State.
