The Association for Formidable Educational Development (AFED), Edo State Chapter, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Edo State Directorate of Education Quality and Accountability (DEQA) to improve educational standards and promote quality learning across the state.
The State Controller of AFED, Mr. Oladele Ogundele, made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Director-General of DEQA, Dr. Amen Ogbemudia, to congratulate her on her appointment, formally introduce the association’s newly elected leadership and appreciate her for the recently concluded stakeholders’ engagement with private school proprietors themed, “School Business for Progress: Advancing Sustainable Private Education Through Strategic School Management.”
The association also appealed to the Edo State Government to grant newly registered private schools a one-year tax waiver to enable them to stabilise operations, invest in educational infrastructure, and improve service delivery during their formative stage.
Responding, Dr. Amen Ogbemudia thanked the association for the visit and its show of support, describing private school operators as indispensable partners in the delivery of quality education in Edo State. She assured AFED of DEQA’s continued commitment to capacity building, collaboration and professional development, stressing that her guiding principle is “Train Before Blame.” She pledged that the Directorate would continue to equip school owners and administrators with the knowledge and skills needed to meet regulatory standards before enforcing compliance measures. Dr. Ogbemudia also assured the association that its appeal for a one-year tax waiver for newly registered private schools, would receive due consideration in line with government policies.
The DG also announced an upcoming capacity building workshop for operators of unapproved schools, themed “School Business for Growth and Progress: Sustainable Growth, Lasting Progress and Educational Excellence.” She noted that the workshop is designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and strategies for sustainable school management, regulatory compliance, and enhanced educational service delivery, in alignment with DEQA’s commitment to raising standards across the state’s education sector.
Earlier, Mr. Ogundele described Dr. Ogbemudia’s appointment by Governor Monday Okpebholo as “a fitting appointment,” expressing confidence in her wealth of experience, competence, and commitment to advancing educational excellence in the state.
He concluded by reaffirming AFED’s commitment to advancing professionalism, upholding ethical standards, and promoting quality education among private school operators. He expressed confidence that sustained collaboration between DEQA and private education providers would enhance educational excellence, strengthen compliance with regulatory standards, and support the sustainable development of Edo State’s education sector.hy
