Edo Assembly Speaker Visits DEQA, Pledges Support for Passage of Establishment Bill

The Director-General and management of the Directorate of Education Quality and Accountability (DEQA), Edo State, have expressed appreciation to the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yekini Idiaye, for his remarkable visit to the Directorate.

The Speaker paid the visit to the Education Hub, where the DEQA office is located, during his engagement with the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Washington Osa Osifo.

Receiving the Speaker at the Directorate’s office, the DG, Dr Amen Ogbemudia described the speaker’s decision to personally visit DEQA as a rare and significant gesture, noting that it demonstrated his humility, accessibility and commitment to strengthening the education sector in Edo State.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Speaker to reflect on the history of the DEQA Establishment Bill, which, according to him, was already before the House during his tenure as Chairman of the House Committee on Education.

Rt. Hon. Idiaye reaffirmed his commitment to the Bill and pledged to facilitate and expedite its passage, which would provide DEQA with the necessary legal framework to effectively discharge its mandate of ensuring quality, standards and accountability across the state’s education sector.

The commitment was warmly received by the DEQA DG, who noted that the passage of the Bill would further strengthen the Directorate’s institutional capacity and enhance its ability to deliver on its mandate.

The DG expressed gratitude to the Speaker for honouring the Directorate with his presence and for demonstrating confidence in the work being undertaken by DEQA to improve education quality and accountability in Edo State.

The visit was described as particularly significant, given the Speaker’s decision to come directly to the Directorate rather than requiring DEQA officials to visit him, a gesture the management said reflected his accessibility and genuine interest in the education sector.

DEQA reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to advance standards, accountability and sustainable improvement across Edo State’s education system.
