Edo Govt House Chaplain Supports Uhogua IDP Camp Students With Educational Materials

The Edo State Government has distributed exercise books and other writing materials to children at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Uhogua, Ovia North East Local Government Area, as part of efforts to support their education ahead of the new academic term.

The intervention was carried out during a visit to the camp on Sunday and was warmly received by the management and children of the Home for the Needy Foundation. The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the state government for its support as schools across the state prepare to resume.

The materials provided significant relief to the children, many of whom are preparing to return to school with renewed hope and the basic learning resources required for their studies. Among the beneficiaries were Unity Moses, an SS1 student, Joy Haruna, a JSS1 student and Barnabas Barka, an SS3 student.

The students expressed gratitude to the government, noting that the exercise books and writing materials would assist them in preparing adequately for the new term. They added that the gesture made them feel remembered and supported in their pursuit of education despite their circumstances.

The camp’s supervisor, Mrs Evelyn Omigie, described the intervention as timely, noting that the provision of learning materials would help alleviate some of the educational challenges confronting the children as they prepare to return to school.

Omigie, however, appealed for additional financial assistance for students in tertiary institutions and those seeking admission to universities. She said such support would enable the students to meet registration fees and other educational expenses associated with their studies.

Presenting the materials, the Government House Chaplain and Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters, Apostle Sule Faraday, said the gesture formed part of the Edo State Government’s continued support for children at the Uhogua IDP camp.

Faraday said the intervention was intended to complement the support provided by the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo over the years. He stressed that children living in displacement should not be denied the educational opportunities available to their peers.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that “children, both displaced and non-displaced, are treated as equals” and provided with the necessary tools to thrive academically. In addition to the school materials, the government presented a cash gift of N400,000 to support students seeking admission and registration into higher institutions.
