The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transparent governance, responsible communication and environmental sustainability, while addressing concerns arising from the recently concluded local government elections and unveiling new environmental initiatives across the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, stated this during the Ministry’s semimonthly press briefing in Benin City.

Addressing journalists, Prince Afegbua congratulated the Senator Monday Okpebholo-led administration on its victory in the local government elections, dismissing claims that the polls were widely boycotted. He explained that the opposition failed to field candidates in several local government areas and wards, and urged the media to uphold factual, balanced and responsible reporting in the interest of democracy and public trust.

He also disclosed that Governor Monday Okpebholo recently met with traditional rulers from Edo Central Senatorial District to strengthen collaboration on community security, peacebuilding and economic development, calling on the media to remain partners in promoting good governance.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Hon. Nosa Adams, highlighted the Ministry’s environmental achievements, including the issuance of 93 compliance notices, prosecution of 30 environmental offenders, inspection of over 60 facilities, establishment of new dumpsites, and ongoing flood control projects.

The Managing Director of the Edo State Waste Management Board, Mr. Lucky Enehita Enegbenehi, announced the deployment of 500 additional street sweepers, procurement of modern waste management equipment and continued enforcement of the “Show Your Waste Receipt” initiative, while the Managing Director of Edo State Parks and Gardens, Pastor Stanley Dave Ighodaro, said the Agency has sustained its statewide tree-planting campaign and rehabilitation of public parks to enhance the state’s aesthetic appeal.
