The Federal Government has commissioned several landmark projects at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), while commending the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, for her dedication to strengthening healthcare delivery and infrastructure within the institution.
Prof. Ize-Iyamu, alongside members of management and key health sector stakeholders, conducted a facility tour on Tuesday to showcase over 12 projects executed under her leadership. She described the developments as essential to enhancing access to affordable, efficient, and quality healthcare services.
The CMD noted that although UBTH has been in existence for over five decades, several of its facilities had deteriorated over time, necessitating comprehensive infrastructural renewal to improve service delivery and health outcomes.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachollom, mni, represented by the Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Benin, officially commissioned the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), alongside other facilities.
The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare also commended Prof. Ize-Iyamu for her visionary leadership and sustained efforts toward advancing quality healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
Among the newly commissioned facilities are a modern police post, an expanded Accident and Emergency waiting area, an upgraded mortuary complex, a Multi Faith Centre, a Renal Premium Ward, a gas plant, a geriatric library and lounge, and a state-of-the-art 160 slice CT scan facility.
Other facilities include the Special Investigation Unit, a modern dentistry complex, an advanced oncology centre, and a dedicated pantry connected to the main operating theatre.
According to hospital management, the projects represent a significant milestone in the modernization of UBTH’s infrastructure and will further strengthen its capacity to deliver efficient, specialised, and patient centred healthcare services.
