The Nigerian Association of Orthodontists (NAO) has celebrated its 20th Annual Meeting and Scientific Conference at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Lagos, marking two decades of advancing orthodontic practice, research and patient-centred dental care in Nigeria.
The landmark conference, themed “360 Degree Orthodontics: Experience, Ethics & Excellence,” brought together leading orthodontists, dental professionals, academics, researchers and industry stakeholders to examine emerging trends and the future of orthodontic care in the country.
The event, led by the President of the Association, Prof. Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, provided a platform for professionals to exchange knowledge, share clinical experiences and explore innovative approaches to improving orthodontic services and patient outcomes.
In her address, Prof. Ize-Iyamu emphasised the importance of integrating professional experience, ethical practice, scientific advancement and patient-centred care in strengthening the delivery of orthodontic services in Nigeria.
She noted that the theme of the conference reflected the need for a comprehensive approach to orthodontics, where clinical expertise, professional ethics, continuous learning and scientific innovation work together to improve the quality of care provided to patients.
The milestone 20th anniversary also provided an opportunity for the Association to honour pioneers and practitioners whose contributions have helped shape the development of orthodontics in Nigeria.
The conference further highlighted the importance of mentorship, research and continuous professional development in preparing the next generation of orthodontists and ensuring that practitioners remain abreast of global developments in the field.
Participants also used the occasion to reinforce the need for strong professional standards, collaboration and scientific innovation as essential components of advancing oral healthcare delivery and orthodontic practice across the country.
The Nigerian Association of Orthodontists reaffirmed its commitment to professional integrity, clinical excellence, lifelong learning and the continuous advancement of orthodontic care, as it looks ahead to another phase of growth and contribution to Nigeria’s healthcare system.
