The Edo State Government has reiterated its commitment to promoting women’s empowerment, political inclusion and leadership development, assuring women-focused organisations of its readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to advance the welfare and interests of women and girls across the state.

The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Eugenia Abdallah, gave the assurance when she received a delegation of Great CEOs and Voters in Politics, Edo State, led by its Coordinator and Convener, Hon. Mrs. Evelyn Inneh, during a courtesy visit to the Ministry.

Abdallah acknowledged the significant contributions of women to political development, noting that women have consistently demonstrated commitment to political causes through active participation in campaigns, voting and other forms of civic engagement. She, however, expressed concern over the inadequate recognition of their sacrifices and contributions.

The Commissioner stressed that appreciating women’s contributions should go beyond personal recognition or material rewards, explaining that citizens, particularly women who actively participate in the democratic process, deserve to enjoy the dividends of democracy through improved living conditions and access to essential social amenities such as good roads, clean water and electricity.

She assured the delegation that the Ministry remained open to partnerships with organisations and individuals committed to advancing the interests of women, children and girls. She described the Ministry as an accessible platform for nurturing emerging female leaders, particularly young women, while providing opportunities and support for them to realise their aspirations.

Abdallah further emphasised the importance of collective action in promoting women’s empowerment, community development and greater female participation in governance and decision-making. She also called on stakeholders to sustain their support for Governor Monday Okpebholo’s developmental agenda, urging them to encourage the completion of ongoing projects and support initiatives aimed at moving Edo State forward.

Earlier, the Coordinator and Convener of Great CEOs and Voters in Politics, Edo State, Hon. Mrs. Evelyn Inneh, said the delegation visited the Ministry to appreciate the Commissioner for her commitment and contributions to the advancement of women and the girl child.

Inneh commended Abdallah for what she described as her exceptional performance in office, noting that her approach to issues affecting women and girls had distinguished her administration at the Ministry. She also offered prayers for God’s continued guidance, wisdom and strength for the Commissioner to achieve more in service to women and the people of Edo State.

The delegation expressed optimism about the future of women’s political participation in Edo State, reiterating its desire to see more women occupy political positions and assume leadership responsibilities at different levels of governance. It also expressed readiness to support initiatives and partnerships that would create more opportunities for women to contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.
