The Uromi Royal Lions Club, in collaboration with other Lions Clubs across Edo State, has touched lives through a humanitarian eye-care outreach organised as part of the 2026 Regional World Sight Day Celebration at St. Camillus Hospital, Uromi, Edo State.

The outreach, themed “Love Your Eyes,” provided essential eye-care services to residents, particularly those who might otherwise have difficulty accessing professional eye examinations and treatment. The initiative underscored the Lions Clubs’ commitment to promoting eye health, preventing avoidable blindness and improving the quality of life in communities

As part of the intervention, a total of 275 persons benefited from free eye screening, while 150 pairs of eyeglasses were distributed to individuals requiring vision correction. In addition, 10 beneficiaries received free cataract surgeries, offering them an opportunity to regain their sight and enjoy an improved quality of life.

Beyond the medical interventions, the programme also featured eye-care education and awareness aimed at encouraging residents to prioritise regular eye examinations and take preventive measures against avoidable vision loss. The initiative brought critical eye-care services closer to the people while demonstrating the importance of collective action in addressing community health challenges.

The President of Uromi Royal Lions Club, Lion (Engr.) Benedict Ayemere, was commended alongside the leadership of Edo Lions and members of the participating clubs for their dedication, generosity and commitment to the successful execution of the project. The successful outreach further demonstrated the Lions’ enduring humanitarian spirit and commitment to service, with the Uromi Royal Lions Club reaffirming its resolve to restore sight, bring hope and change lives through compassionate community service.
