Edo Tribunal: INEC Fails To Present Alternative Results, Judgment Date To Be Announced

The Edo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has concluded hearings, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failing to present alternative results to contradict the evidence presented by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo

During the resumed proceedings on Monday, March 3, 2025, Counsel to the Petitioners, Ken Mozia, SAN, stated that INEC failed to tender any alternative result sheet evidence or plead any alternative forms EC25B to challenge the PDP’s documentary evidence of rigging across 765 disputed polling units in Edo State.

The PDP had presented 19 key witnesses and tendered 154 BVAS machines in proof of their case, alleging multiple incidents of over-voting, non-serialization of ballots, and incorrect computation of results . In contrast, INEC failed to present a single witness to defend its declaration of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the winner of the disputed election.

The tribunal, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, has reserved judgment, with the date to be communicated to the parties ². Counsels adopted their final written addresses, with INEC’s counsel, Kanu Agabi, SAN, praying the tribunal to dismiss the petition for lacking merit
