The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State Branch, successfully hosted its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Scientific Conference, themed “Safeguarding Standards, Advancing Clinical Practice: The Role of Public-Private Partnerships in Our Hospitals.”
The event was attended by the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, who represented the Executive Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo. Also present was the Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, alongside other distinguished medical professionals and key stakeholders in the health sector.
As part of the programme, the Governor represented by the Deputy Governor commissioned several landmark projects executed under the leadership of the Edo State NMA Chairman, Dr. Eustace Oseghale. These include the Prof. Omoti Presidential Suite, the Dr. Philip Ugbodaga Medical Library, and the Nigerian Medical Association Edo State History Ville.
In his address, the Chairman of the NMA, Edo State Branch, Dr. Eustace Oseghale, expressed appreciation to Governor Monday Okpebholo for his commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery through improved health infrastructure, enhanced welfare for healthcare professionals, and sustained investment in the health sector.
Dr. Oseghale further called on private individuals, corporate organisations, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to support public health institutions. He also urged the government to deepen collaboration with private healthcare providers in line with the conference theme, noting that effective public-private partnerships remain critical to improving healthcare outcomes.
Other dignitaries present at the event included the Chief Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Benin, Dr. Philip Ugbodaga, the Chief Medical Director of Edo Specialist Hospital, Dr. Anthonia Njoku, the Centre Leader, Centre for Excellence in Reproductive Health Innovation (CERHI), Prof. Otaniyenuwa Obarisiagbon, as well as medical elders, business leaders, and members of the Association.
The week-long programme continues with a Dinner and Award Night and will conclude with a Thanksgiving Service.
